Official German Pavilions.
The Federal Republic of Germany participates officially in many exhibitions outside its own borders. Within the context of the foreign trade fair programme, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWi) and the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL) supports the participation by German companies at foreign exhibitions. In addition to the support available at federal ministry level, the individual German states, or "Länder", provide support for companies interested in promoting their export activities and also organise joint exhibition stands for companies from their region. The foreign trade fair programmes of the 'Länder" are coordinated with the activities of the federal government.
By far the larger proportion of official participations is in the shape of joint stands. By drawing exhibitors together and using uniform visual markings on the individual exhibition stands, it is possible to present Germany, its products and businesses as a homogeneous group.
It is, in particular, small and medium enterprises that are given the opportunity in this manner to enter foreign markets. Joint participations in such exhibitions cut both costs and risks, and all those participating benefit from joint promotional activities.
The organisational, technical and financial management activities are assigned to individual execution companies who accompany the German exhibitors from the beginning of preparations. The execution company develops a concept for each event. For the German government to contribute, it is generally necessary to have at least ten companies participating.
At the exhibitions, there is always a centralised information stand staffed by qualified experts who provide information on the industry sector in question in Germany. Details of the official German pavilions, whether at a federal level or from the German states, are available from the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA). Together with the federal ministries, this organisation coordinates official foreign exhibition participation for the Federal Republic of Germany.
